  • PENLAND SCHOOL OF CRAFTS

      Only a half hour east of Mountain Air is the Penland School of Crafts which is America's oldest and premier school for artisans of all craft mediums. Take a summer class or just enjoy browsing the gallery.

  • THE QUILT TRAIL
    • In an afternoon’s drive from Mountain Air you can pass by more than 200 large quilt blocks hanging on various buildings. Each block is connected by pattern name to the history of the land, building or family where the square hangs. This project spans 30 states. Pick up a map in Burnsville.

  • TOE RIVER ARTS COUNCil
    • More artists per capita reside in the mountains of North Carolina than in any other region of the US. In June and December, you can take a free self guided tour of over 400 artists’ studios and watch them work blowing glass, throwing clay, bending metal, making jewelry, painting, basket weaving or working at one of many other arts.
