Did you know that Mountain Air can be reached from more than 70% of the US east of the Mississippi River in 3 hours or less? At an elevation of 4400 ft., our private, paved 2875 ft. airstrip (2NCO) on top of Slickrock Mountain is a breeze to access.
Almost 20% of Mountain Air members are licensed pilots with a variety of flying backgrounds including civilian pilots, commercial pilots and military pilots. The Mountain Air Pilots Association members share an interest in all things aviation and promote programs stressing safety and training.
Among the aircraft making regular appearances on our runway are SNJs, Pilatus PC-12s, Citation Jets, Beechcraft King Airs, Barons, Bonanzas, Diamonds and various Cirrus and Cessna model aircraft.
Landing on, or taking off from, 2NCO is a magical experience. On take off you can see Mt. Mitchell, the highest mountain peak east of the Mississippi River. And sometimes you actually take off above the clouds!
The Mountain Air runway is also the location for a number of special events throughout the year —4th of July parties with fireworks, outdoor movie nights where you watch a giant screen from your golf cart, and vintage car or airplane exhibitions.
